Christmas 2012.

It was a perfect Christmas morning.

Every year I go to bed on Christmas Eve feeling like our kids didn't get much (which isn't all bad, really), but by the time we're wading through wrapping paper late-Christmas morning, I feel like they got way too much.

Christmas shopping is delightful in my book.  I love hunting for gifts people will love (and there's no guilt because I'm not buying it for myself.)  I'm sure I've said it before, and I'll say it again: shopping and I are tight.  Especially on Saturday mornings, kid-free.  Blessed Saturday mornings...I love our times together.

Ben's excitement has worn off on me over the years.  I splurge because of him.  It's all his fault!  He's a big believer in making Christmas magical and full of wonder...especially in the gift giving department.  Not that we're overboard, no fancy trips or cars (heh).  We just love the wide-eyed look of excited kids (and dads).  And, really, I think Ben has just as much--if not more--fun playing with the kids' stuff as they do.
Who's excited?  Okay, so maybe this was manufactured excitement...

So, yeah, Christmas was fantastic.  We played, we ate, we laughed, we squabbled, we made up, we played some more...and just had a great time.

I wish I could have eternal anticipation of Christmas without the day ever coming.  I hate to see it go, but, when you start finding spatulas in the Christmas tree, it's probably time to say goodbye.

There are wonderful, miraculous, unmatched reasons for celebrating Jesus' birth, and more than anything else, I am eternally grateful for those: redemption, hope, love, forgiveness, etc.  But, I think the Savior of the World likes a good time, too.  I'm grateful for the happy, JOYFUL memories of a perfect Christmas morning, all thanks to Him.

(I used to love shopping. And now I hate it! Why? I don't know. But I did 98% of my Christmas shopping on Amazon Prime. LOVE.

I think I need to take a trip up to you and we can go shopping on a Saturday morning. to DI.

I'm serious.)

Sounds wonderful!
I bet it was fun to have so much family to hang out with, but to still have a little family Christmas at your own home--the perfect combo!

Love those pictures! Michael is a huge believer in doing Christmas big for the kids. He says it is the one day each year that children should be spoiled rotten. I think it stems from his very poor childhood. I'm glad you had a wonderful Christmas.

And the chevron blanket- I have it in yellow because it is so awesome!

Katie M: YES to the shopping...yes.

Katie L.: Isn't TJ Maxx the BEST place for stuff like that? I saw that yellow one AND a pink one and wanted to buy them all...but, I reigned myself in...much to my chagrin. Chevron stripes are so darn happy to me!
