It's happened...finally. We've waited six LONG months for our chickens to lay eggs. The looks on my kids' faces when they brought in two little brown eggs was priceless. Like Christmas morning (Christmas in July, hah!). Wonder and excitement all in one kid-sized package. That look alone was worth the six month wait.
I'm sure the novelty will wear off on the big kids. But for the littles, I bet it'll stick around a while. I'm so glad we have more littles(3) than bigs(2) in the house because it's just too fun sending them out to check if there are new eggs. They bolt out of the house like it's on fire!
It's a great diversion for kids on the brink of trouble. I have an important job waiting at my fingertips twice a day. I guess you could say it's a secret weapon. They LOVE to do it. Problem solved.
I made cookies today with our new eggs. Surprisingly, when I cracked them they each had two yokes?! Will our family die of food poisoning? Is that bad? They looked beautiful, but I have no idea if this is normal. I'm a grocery-store-white-egg person trying to live a hobby farm life.
I guess we'll see if we're alive and kicking tomorrow or barfing? I'll keep you posted.
Hope your day is eggstra special (hit me now, seriously)!
