Jumping to a completely different topic, my mom shared a story with me tonight and I can't stop thinking about it. In our church we have a worldwide women's organization called the Relief Society, whose objectives are to bring women closer to Christ and to serve and strengthen families. Each ward (or congregation) has a Relief Society President. Sorry for the facts, this is just to premise my little story.
My mother is friends with a woman who's in a nursing home recovering from a broken femur (along with other major health issues). My mom was visiting with her tonight and asked, "So, Judy, has Carol (the relief society president) been up to visit you yet?"
Judy replies, matter-of-factly, "Does the sun rise every morning?" Wow. What a tribute to this relief society president. Being likened to something so constant and consistent, so sure, is inspiring. I want to be like that. I'm certainly not there yet...but I hope to be. Compassion and dedication is the formula for effective, meaningful service. And it's only when we serve others that we find real joy, meaning, and satisfaction in life. I learned (or re-learned) a great lesson tonight and, well, it's time to start applying it a little more. So, here I go...
