'Tis the Season...

Back to school.

Nature gave us a treat on our last day of freedom--it was a beautiful evening. After a delicious back-to-school feast, it was time to cut hair. It's like we were putting their lives in order by trimming all their scraggly, loose ends. Time for structure, order, cleanliness (dare I admit), and full-brain function. After Ben gave them each special blessings, they picked out their clothes, laying their folded outfits neatly (I stress "neatly" because boys don't do many things "neatly," right? It was tender. Oh, and Ben says, "boys don't wear 'outfits'") beside their beds. They were so excited. I was too, for them.

Wednesday morning came earlier than usual for my fellas. They're not used to waking up at 6:30am. They were troopers. Oatmeal, scriptures, family prayer, lunches, backpacks, out the door. the bus came at 7:45. I'm wondering how they're doing. Lincoln had his first day of preschool this morning, too. He did great. I wasn't too worried about that guy.

I'm still having moments of wonder living out here in the country. It's still fresh and new to me. Three things that stuck out to me over the past 24 hours that kind of delighted me were: 1) while giving hair cuts, the tractor across the street was cutting his grain. Sun setting, tractor cutting, hair trimming, ahhh...so wholesome. 2) I was driving home this morning, after running with my amazon-woman friend, rushing to get the kids up in time for school when, about 50 yards in front of me, a daddy moose, mama moose, and two little baby moose, ran across the road in front of me. Can you believe it?! I had no idea that moose families even stayed together after birth (I knew the moms did, of course, it's just those fathers who run:)). I watched them trotting along together as I passed. It was marvelous. And 3) watching the bus pull away, with my children, driving down our country road with the early morning sun shining in my eyes. Those were great moments to be tucked away in my memory.

Here begins another chapter...

I love all of your pictures, especially the silouettes of summer. I too am sad to see summer go. What wonderful memories. I admire that you spent that one on one time with Lincoln until he "couldn't stand you." I truely believe that when one is acting up, it's the one on one that heals. Such cute posts Lanette! :)

I never really had a strong desire to move to Rexburg, until now! I've always loved visiting there, but now Ive decided that I need to be your next door neighbor!
I have loved having tractors rolling down the street, fields in my yard and across the street, and the charming country life, but to have all that AND people speaking English (most of them anyway)--and maybe even a neighbor or two under the age of 70?--dreamy!
enjoy it!
