1 on 1...

(certainly not the most flattering picture, if we're being honest.)

I wasn't quite sure what to do with myself. The big boys were at a friends house, Annie was sleeping, Lincoln was...looking at me, waiting for us to figure out what to do. This one-child scenario is a rare occurence. He's had some "acting out" issues lately, so I devoted the next three hours to Lincoln, just Lincoln. I figured I'd play with him until he couldn't stand me anymore.

So, we made chocolate chip cookies and filled our tummies with dough. I know, evil parent, but dough IS one of my most favorite treats in the world, and the trait, unfortunately has passed down to my children. We bonded over that stainless steel bowl, just us and the dough.

Next, we whipped out the play-doh. We smashed and rolled, pushed and shaped, braided and squished that play-doh for a very long time. It was so fun, just to be silly...just to make Lincoln laugh. I think I used up all the creativity my right brain could offer.

Guess what?
I did it. I played with Lincoln until he couldn't stand me anymore. I out-played him. It felt good. He said he was done, left me, smiling, and played by himself for an hour. We had less naughty words, less pushing of brothers and sister, and a more contented Lincoln the rest of the day. Phew.

And then...
Annie woke up.

It is amazing how 1 on 1 time does wonders. Even just 15 minutes goes a long way in this house so I bet Lincoln's 1 on 1 cup was overflowing! Great Job Lanette!
