What is Your Beautiful?

I was running on the treadmill this morning (this is nothing to brag about...it was the first time this week), reading Southern Accents magazine. I loved what the editor said in her article and thought I'd share . . .
"The real key to having a home you think is beautiful is surrounding yourself with whatever speaks to you, regardless of what the latest big thing may be."
Her comment was liberating. Liberating? Yes, completely. The longer I have a home of my own, the more I'm discovering what speaks to me. I look back and see times when I thought my mother's voice was mine, or my friend's voice was mine. When I did that--thinking it was my voice--I was never completely satisfied. Does it make sense when I say I was vaguely unfulfilled? Well, I'm on a path of self-discovery, learning to listen to my voice. And not just when it comes to my home. What if we changed her comment to this,
"The real key to having a life you think is beautiful is surrounding yourself with whatever speaks to you, regardless of what the latest big thing my be."
I guess I always need little reminders to look inside myself for beauty, instead of seeing what the "latest" beautiful thing is. Notice, the editor says, ". . . a home YOU think is beautiful . . ." or, what Lanette says, ". . .a life YOU think is beautiful . . ." not a home or life "Sally" or "Mary" thinks is beautiful. I tend to be a people pleaser at heart, which makes my struggle intense sometimes:). When I've lived this idea of looking inside, those times are certainly my most fulfilling, my happiest. I'm all about being fulfilled.
So, my soapbox to the world today is: Listen to your inner voice, it's beautiful, it's different from anyone else's...and that's what's great about it. Share it with others, gently, and your life will be full.
